I’ve had such a mother-watering, lip-smacking, appetizing, succulent and scrumptious time so far with the My Beautiful Food initiative by MyBorosil, that I decided to end my participation with a fourth entry where I truly talk about what is that one meal that is truly perfect for me. And when I say perfect, I mean PERFECT 🙂
Punjabi flavours all the way! The dish is Sarson Ka Saag and Makki Ki Roti, which is best enjoyed sitting in some sprawling Yash Chopra style sunflower fields in a welcoming field of Punjab!
Edible slice of heaven! When the creamy yummy sarson combines with the butter-laden makki roti, the effect produces something close to heaven!
Rajasthan is not far behind! Yes, Punjab is probably the originator and king of thise dish, but neighboring states of Haryana and Rajasthan also love the flavors of Sarson Ka Saag and Makki Ki Roti. When mustard leaves combines with spices, you get the saag to die for; and when Indian maize flatbread harmonizes and acts as the perfect accompaniment, you feel you have attained nirvana!
Fattening alright, but who cares? Dollops of ghee to go in the saag and more dollops of butter to garnish the rotis, without these this dish is incomplete. There have to be layers of flavors that coat your tongue with each bite and morsel. Forget that you know the word ‘fat’ or ‘calorie’ when you enjoy this mouth-watering dish. Fat or no fat, there is nothing that beats Sarson Ka Saag and Makki Ki Roti!
Eaten with your hands! No fancy cutlery, spoons and forks for this one. Sarson Ka Saag and Makki Ki Roti is best eaten with your hands or even better, fed by your loving mother! This is a through and through Indian dish, to be enjoyed the Indian way.
Charming reminder of idyllic rural life! After working hard in the fields for the whole day, when the farmers would return home, their wives would wait for them with platters of Sarson Ka Saag and Makki Ki Roti. Smelling the aroma right from the door and preparing themselves for an onslaught of flavors, they forgot all hardship they went through the whole day. When you take a bit of it, sitting wherever you are, you are sure to remember that idyllic simple life!
Totally perfect for winters, especially those of Delhi! Nothing beats the nippy early Delhi winters, when you have home-made Sarson Ka Saag and Makki Ki Roti for company!
I’m sure that after reading this post, you are drooling and salivating already. So go to your neighboring dhaba and pack this delicacy right away. Bring it home and serve it using the Essential Combination Set for the best effect. Then eat it in the Leaves – Fidenza 35 Piece Melamine Dinner Set.
There, you just had the PERFECT meal.
This is another post in this yummy series.
