Grown up on gorgeous images of the alps and chiffon saris in Yash Chopra movies? or charming horseman galloping through jungles in Hollywood potboilers? Imagines being young at heart at fifty and cruising through world after retirement? Or drooling after the most sinful delicacies and dreamed of eating them till the day you die?
Well, looks like you have been as delusional as my husband and I have.
Thorough foodies, travel lovers, and dreamers; we have both always thought that the good life will last forever. That we will be young and fit, no matter what our lifestyle, that our hearts will beat in beat, our steps will be agile and our stomachs will digest anything we subject them to. Alas, it is not true. Any well-oiled machine starts showing signs of aging with time, especially if it has been abused the way we humans abuse our bodies.
How easily we say ‘body is our temple’ and how little we really believe it. We realized this when we took the ‘Weight-Heart Test’ at www.saffolalife.com. It came as such a rude shock and as a reality check at the same time.
With ah heart risk of 32% more than normal, initially I felt quite dejected. But then I began to see the possibilities of change, starting right now itself. Since my husband’s test was something similar, we both decided to work together as a team and take care of this. As they say, it is never too late to start, so these are the pledges my husband and I have taken together:
- We will walk together every morning for 30 minutes, encouraging each other to keep the discipline. We realize that this will give us that much needed time together to share our thoughts and have some loving moments too!
- We will find out healthy recipes and make a list of them for the week, whether be salads, soups, or no-oil dishes.
- We will encourage each other to replace sugar with jiggery, cream milk with low-cream, parathas with fulkas and red meat with white meat.
So what are the activities that you will do together with your wife / husband that will #ProtectHerHeart and also be a fun way to spend some quality time together? Will you take a dance class together, eat a healthy meal together, or go for a long romantic walk together? Do share your responses in the comments.. 🙂
